My allowances:
For the financial year 2009/10:
 | all County Councillors are paid an
allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of £8,213
pa; |
 | all Cabinet Members (of which I am one) are
paid an additional allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of
£12,319 pa; |
 | the Leader of the Council is paid an
additional allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of £12,319. |
Thus, my combined income from the County
Council for what is effectively a full-time job is £32.851 pa.
My expenses:
Local government legislation allows me to claim
for:
 | travel on official council business.
This includes travel from home to County Hall and also other journeys on
official business. Car mileage is paid at 40 pence per mile for
the first 10,000 miles pa and at 25 pence thereafter. Train travel
is reimbursed for a second class ticket. |
 | subsistence. I can claim for
overnight stays on official business, subject to strict limits as set
out in the County Council's Members' Allowances scheme. |
