My allowances:

For the financial year 2010/11:

bulletall County Councillors are paid an allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of £8,295 pa;
bulletall Cabinet Members (of which I am one) are paid an additional allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of £12,442 pa;
bulletthe Leader of the Council is paid an additional allowance (or salary) subject to tax and national insurance of £12,442.

Thus, my combined income from the County Council for what is effectively a full-time job is £33,179 pa.  Members resolved to freeze their allowances for 2010/11 at the 2009/10 level.

My expenses:

Local government legislation allows me to claim for:

bullettravel on official council business.  This includes travel from home to County Hall and also other journeys on official business.  Car mileage is paid at 40 pence per mile for the first 10,000 miles pa and at 25 pence thereafter.  Train travel is reimbursed for a second class ticket.
bulletsubsistence.  I can claim for overnight stays on official business, subject to strict limits as set out in the County Council's Members' Allowances scheme.

Detail of my expense claims, month by month for each calendar year are set out below:

bullet Expenses 2005/06
bullet Expenses 2006/07
bullet Expenses 2007/08
bullet Expenses 2008/09
bullet Expenses 2009/10
bullet Expenses 2010/11 will be updated monthly

There are no second homes here; no duck islands; no moat clearances; no gardeners'  bills.  Local government is rightly strict about reimbursing expenses.  Local government is also transparent.
