BURNING QUESTION

Media Horror Story .....

The Oxford Mail of 25 January 2008 carries this front page headline and picture with a story and another picture on page 2.

The reporters are Giles Sheldrick and Andy Ffrench.

The picture is a total fabrication and does not show a modern Energy from Waste installation.

The list of 28 sites is taken from a confidential County Council document which local government law requires us to keep confidential for good commercial reasons.

Someone has betrayed their obligation to maintain confidentiality to give this sensational story to the red top media.

The next picture shows the reality .....

Tyseley Energy from Waste Plant

And the reality .....

This is the Tyseley Energy from Waste Plant.  It is a state-of-the-art facility serving Birmingham.  Its visual image refects this. The new Plant has become a landmark building with its bold architectural treatment. An award-winning, innovative lighting display illuminates the plant to its full advantage during the hours of darkness.

The Energy from Waste Plant is a mass burner of municipal waste through a two stream incinerator designed to give a combined capacity of over 350,000 tonnes a year. A large proportion of this financial benefit passes to the City Council. The Plant operates 24 hours a day for 365 days a year (except for planned shutdowns for servicing) and is well within UK and EU standards for emissions to atmosphere. The plant also recovers several thousand tonnes a year of ferrous metals for recycling from the process and Bottom Ash is also recycled from the plant.
